After a series of prisoner escapes in recent weeks in the City of Buenos Aires, the Head of Government, Jorge Macri, has decided to remove the Minister of Security, Waldo Wolff. It is rumored that Horacio Giménez, a retired commissioner of the Federal Police and former head of the Metropolitan Police, will take his place.
In response to the situation of detainee escapes from various police stations in the City, the city government deployed nearly 500 uniformed officers to the boroughs to reinforce street security. These officers were reassigned from non-operational areas to the precincts, and it is expected that during the week, more will continue to be sent to other precincts.
After Wolff's presentation to the Port Legislative Assembly about the situation, Jorge Macri decided on his removal and the appointment of Giménez, who had previously been the head of the Metropolitan Police during the term of his cousin, Mauricio Macri. Giménez has extensive experience in the Federal Police, where he retired with the rank of superintendent of the General Directorate of Internal Security.
One of the most notable episodes during Giménez's management was the eviction of the Borda Psychiatric Hospital, during which several press workers, health personnel, port legislators, and demonstrators were injured. This operation ended with more than 50 injured, leaving a controversial mark on his career.
